Alabama basketball still remains in the mix for No. 1 recruit in the nation

Alabama basketball remains in the mix for five-star recruit AJ Dybantsa.

While the Crimson Tide missed the boat on early blue chip signings like Braylon Mullins (UConn) and Meleek Thomas (Arkansas), who signed for National Signing Day on Wednesday, coach Nate Oats still has a chance at winning the 6-foot-9, 210 pound small forward to his 2025 recruiting class.

Dybantsa attends Utah Prep in Hurricane, Connecticut, and is the top ranked player in the nation per 247Sports and the ESPN100.

Alabama was among the first to offer Dybantsa in April 2024.

On Wednesday, ESPN100 recruiting director Paul Biancardi shared that Dybantsa is ahead of schedule in his recruiting timeline and plans to move up his commitment.

“It’s probably going to be in December,” Dybantsa said, having originally planned to commit in February.

Director of scouting for 247Sports Adam Finkelstein predicts that BYU will lock down Dybantsa, but the senior has told ESPN that Alabama, Auburn, North Carolina, Kansas and Kansas State are still contenders.

Dybantsa was most recently seen in Tuscaloosa during Alabama football’s win over Georgia alongside Oats and fellow UA prospects Thomas, who committed to coach John Calipari on Monday, and Brayden Burries, who remains uncommitted.

Alabama’s 2025 recruiting class currently holds four-star small forward Amari Allen, who signed on Wednesday morning, and a commitment from four-star power forward London Jemison.
