Colorado State, Wyoming sign contract to continue Border War after Rams leave for Pac-12

COLORADO/WYOMING STATE LINE — Colorado State and Wyoming will soon be in different conferences, but the Border War will continue.

Fittingly, the deal was signed at the border.

Athletic director’s John Weber and Tom Burman announced during Thursday’s boot run ceremony that the rivalry will be extended.

A new contract calls for games every year from 2028-35 (rotating between home sites). That leaves a two-year gap (2026 and 2027) where the teams aren’t yet scheduled to play, but games could be added if the schools shuffle future schedules.

Burman said at the ceremony that the schools are working to fill in the gaps.

CSU is leaving the Mountain West for the Pac-12 in 2026, while Wyoming will remain in the Mountain West.

It meant that one of the oldest rivalries in college football could have been ended. The teams first met in football in 1899 and have played almost every year since.

When CSU announced its move to the Pac-12, both Weber and Burman expressed a desire to continue the Border War, but packed future schedules added a wrinkle.

It’s signed, now.

CSU and Wyoming will continue to play, at least in the near future.

The teams play at 6 p.m. Friday at Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins in the 2024 matchup.
