Colorado’s most prolific high school quarterbacks meet this week in a playoff showdown

Fossil Ridge’s quaterback Nick Kubat drops back to throw during a high school football game against Rock Canyon on Friday, Sept. 6, 2024 at French Field in Fort Collins, Colo.

As if Colorado high school playoff football wasn’t entertaining enough already.

Prepare for some offensive fireworks in the Class 5A second round when No. 2 Mountain Vista (10-0) faces No. 15 Fossil Ridge (7-4) this Friday at 7 p.m.

It’s a matchup between Colorado’s two most productive quarterbacks this season: Golden Eagles star Austyn Modrzewski vs. SaberCats slinger Nick Kubat.

Modrzewski is a highly touted recruit with the more storied career, leading Colorado all-time in passing yards (over 11,000), touchdowns (140) and completions (776) as the state’s 2023 Gatorade Player of the Year.

But Kubat has also emerged this season as a big-time dual threat for a SaberCats team that has been able to hang with some top-tier opponents.

Together, the two lead all state quarterbacks in most major statistical categories.

Here’s how these top Colorado QBs stack up entering their playoff showdown:
