After Texas and Oklahoma announced they were leaving the conference, the Big 12 had to consider potential new additions to keep the league relevant in today’s rapidly changing college football world.
With the Pac-12 imploding after its biggest programs joined the Big Ten, a door was open for the Big 12 to add the “Four Corner” schools ― Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah ― to the conference.
Two of those Four Corner schools will face off on Saturday in a Big 12 Conference matchup: No. 20 Colorado (7-2, 5-1 Big 12) will take on Utah (4-5, 1-5) at noon ET from Folsom Field in Boulder, Colorado.

What are the ‘Four Corner’ schools?
Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah are the schools and college football teams from the “Four Corners” region of the United States. The Four Corners is where the borders of northeastern Arizona, southwestern Colorado, northwestern New Mexico and southeastern Utah meet.
Following the departures of Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC, Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah were added to the Big 12 Conference. Commissioner Brett Yormark discussed the importance of adding the Four Corners schools at the Big 12 media days in July:
“The Four Corner schools was the ‘A’ scenario for us when we thought about realignment — great fanbases, both athletic and academic excellence,” Yormark said. “We got deeper and better in football, deeper and better in basketball, and deeper and better in Olympic sports.”
