When College Football Playoff rankings are released, what to know for Alabama football

Alabama football is gearing up to learn its ranking in the third College Football Rankings of the 2024 season just around the corner.

Alabama has had an up-and-down season — with two losses coming into the regular season’s home stretch and sitting outside the driver’s seat for a chance to compete for an SEC title due to road losses to Vanderbilt and Tennessee. They boast wins over LSU, Wisconsin, Georgia, South Carolina and Missouri alongside two wins over Group of 5 programs.

The third installment of CFP rankings come out at 6 p.m. Tuesday on ESPN, as most of the releases will be around that time slot. There will be five rankings during the season, leading to a final one on Dec. 8 to set the playoff field and bowl games.

It is the first year of the 12-team College Football Playoff, where the top four conference champions will get first-round byes. Another conference champ will get an automatic bid, while the rest of the field will be selected by the CFP rankings as at-large bids.

Alabama football CFP rankings projection

The Crimson Tide is 7-2 on the year, so they won’t be near the top of the rankings — but should still be ranked. They are in a tie for fifth in the SEC going into the Nov. 16 slate of games.

Last week they cracked the top ten and baring an upset on Saturday they should stay inside the top 10 and for now comfortably inside the playoffs.
