The Arizona State football team is 8-2 overall and 5-2 in the Big 12.
It impressed in a 24-14 win over No. 16 Kansas State Saturday, handing the Wildcats their first loss of the season at home.
Will it be enough for the Sun Devils to be ranked for the first time under coach Kenny Dillingham?
It should be.
Last week, ASU football was second in the “others receiving votes” category in the AP poll, essentially making it the No. 27-ranked team in the country.
The College Football Playoff rankings, released on Tuesdays, did not include Arizona State in its most recent Top 25, but the Sun Devils are firmly in the conversation and might see their logo Tuesday evening.
In the “others receiving votes” category of the most recent US LBM Coaches poll, the Sun Devils were third, putting them at No. 28 in the nation.

Why Arizona State should be ranked in Top 25 polls Sunday
Several ranked teams lost on Saturday, including many lower in the rankings, which should allow the Sun Devils to move up.
In addition to Kansas State, heavily favored Louisville suffered its fourth loss, 38-35 to Stanford. South Carolina gave Missouri its third loss, 34-30. Florida beat LSU, 27-16, the Tigers’ fourth loss.
You would think a two-loss Arizona State team coming off a win over Kansas State would pass those teams with three and four losses, right?
Tulane, Louisiana and Iowa State were ahead of ASU in “others receiving votes” categories in one poll or the other, but Louisiana lost to South Alabama.
Tulane beat Navy, 35-0, and Iowa State defeated Cincinnati, but ASU had the most impressive win of those teams this week, so seeing some voters elevate the Sun Devils this week wouldn’t be out of the question.
