Friday Night Notes: Lane Kiffin visits Deuce Knight, USC’s quarterback shuffle, and more

USA TODAY High School Sports’ Friday Night Notes is a weekly football recruiting recap that looks at the latest news from around the country—from the high school and college level.

It’s been an interesting week on the recruiting front, especially regarding the nation’s top quarterback prospects.

Bellville’s (Mich.) Bryce Underwood responded to rumors swirling around Michigan’s NIL offer, surprising many when the QB noted that he’d likely decline the $10.5 million. But that shouldn’t stop the Wolverines from pursuing the nation’s No. 1 player.

Colorado just keeps on rising, and they may be the biggest beneficiary of the craziness that has become USC’s latest quarterback news.

And don’t forget about Lane Kiffin, who created some buzz surrounding Deuce Knight. The talented QB has already flipped his commitment once, from Notre Dame to Auburn, but the Ole Miss coach is trying to make that a two-time deal.

Let’s dive a bit deeper into that in the latest edition of Friday Night Notes.

Florida hosts No. 2 prospect in 2026 class

The Gators announced last week that they would give Billy Napier a vote of confidence, announcing that he’d be with the program going forward despite rumors saying the opposite.

On Saturday, that vote of confidence seemed to be justified as the Gators trounced No. 21 LSU 27-16 in the Swamp. They did so on a big recruiting weekend for the program that saw the No. 2 player in the 2026 class in Gainesville.

St. Frances Academy (Baltimore, Md.) EDGE Zion Elee made his first trip to the school and came at a great time as the Gators picked up one of their biggest wins during Napier’s tenure. Elee has not announced his top schools, but according to multiple recruiting outlets, Oregon is the heavy favorite at the moment.
