Randy Shannon has been in this position before. It is not his first rodeo in dealing with coaching changes, whether he is involved in them or a part of them.
Now, as Florida State football’s (1-9, 1-7 ACC) interim defensive coordinator following the firing of Adam Fuller, Shannon’s approach is not out of the ordinary.
He wants to keep things simple while having FSU finish on a high note as they prepare for Saturday’s matchup against Charleston Southern (1-10), which will kick off at 1:30 p.m. at Doak Campbell Stadium.
“It’s like anything else. Change comes, everybody wants to know what we’re going to do, why we’re going to do this, and things like that, and you just tell them,” Shannon said.

“Then, okay, yeah, let’s go, let’s roll, and like anything else, we got to find out and are willing to do this. The guys have been really focused on what we do and who can do certain things.”
After Tuesday’s practice, Shannon said the scheme and personnel have remained the same instead of complicating the things that are already in play for them. He wants to keep things simple and treat all his defensive players equally.
“You got what you got, so coach anybody that you got coaching,” Shannon said.
“It’s one thing that you say to them, and if you coach them hard and they believe that they are going to be a first-rounder, they’ll be a first-rounder.”
John Papuchis sees positive attitudes from players after coaching changes
Special teams coordinator and defensive end coach John Papuchis was the lone coordinator standing after the departure of Fuller and Alex Atkins.
Now coming off a bye week, Papuchis was asked if the players have responded after Norvell’s coaching changes. So far, he has seen positive feedback.
