Latest College Football Rankings predictions: Does Texas move down after Arkansas win?

For those who believe the Texas Longhorns will drop in Tuesday’s College Football Rankings after a close road win, think again.

The Horns didn’t crush Arkansas but they took care of business against a traditional rival in a hostile road environment so expect them to remain at No. 3 this week.

My top four has one change from last week. Oregon remains No. 1 after that 16-13 win at Wisconsin. Ohio State is second after the 31-7 win over Northwestern. After Texas, Penn State moves up to No. 4 after the 49-10 win over Purdue and Tennessee’s 31-17 loss to Georgia.

That’s three Big Ten teams in the top four, but only one can get a first-round bye. Also, if these rankings stand up, the Horns would move up to a No. 2 seed with Ohio State and Tennessee moving down to the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, respectively.

The Horns improved to 9-1 overall and 5-1 in SEC play after they took care of business with the 20-10 win over the Hogs. Even though they have some things to iron out in the passing/protection game, they are in a great position to advance to the SEC championship game if they can close out the regular season with wins over Kentucky and Texas A&M.

Texas is a 21-point favorite over the 4-6 Wildcats, who had lost four in a row before taking a 48-6 win over FCS member Murray State. The Aggies are a 3½-point favorite at Auburn.
