With three consecutive losses dropping it to 6-4 and setting it up for what appears destined to be a disappointing 2024 season, something needs to change for LSU football.
At the very least, the Tigers will look different the next time they take the field.
LSU will wear gold jerseys when it faces off against Vanderbilt Saturday night at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, the program announced on social media Monday night.

According to the program’s record book, it will be just the fifth time the Tigers have ever worn gold jerseys. They previously did so in 1996 against Vanderbilt, 1997 against Notre Dame in the Independence Bowl, 1998 against Florida and 2016 against Mississippi State. LSU is 3-1 in those games, with the lone loss coming to a top-10 Florida team.
Given its opponent, there’s an interesting historical parallel for LSU, which first sported gold jerseys in 1996 when Vanderbilt didn’t give it permission to wear its customary white jerseys for a game at Tiger Stadium, forcing then-coach Gerry DiNardo’s program to call an audible.
Perhaps more than any other college football program, LSU is known for its uniform consistency, wearing a gold helmet, white jerseys and gold pants for the overwhelming majority of its games, home or away.
Though they’ve already achieved bowl eligibility, the Tigers will look to salvage what they can from their 2024 season in their final two games. After facing Vanderbilt on Saturday, they’ll host SEC newcomer Oklahoma on November 30.
