VERMILLION — A number of area high school football coaches have received honors from the South Dakota Football Coaches Association.
Many of the awards were presented Thursday through Saturday during the state high school football championships in the DakotaDome.
Head Coaches of the Year included Shayne Geditz of Faulkton Area (Class 9B) and Ethan Pearson of Elkton-Lake Benton (Class 9AA).
Assistant Coaches of the Year included Kelly O’Connor of Watertown (Class 11AA), Chad Spicer of Faulkton Area (Class 9B) and Kaleb Haas of Elkton-Lake Benton (Class 9AA). O’Connor also received a 30-year coaching award.

Mathew Cadwell of Sioux Valley is the Middle School Coach of the Year and Bill Weber of Watertown the State Friend of Football.
Other Head Coaches of the Year are Matt CHristensen of Brandon Valley (Class 11AAA), Tom Tieszen of Spearfish (Class 11AA), Jared Smith of Sioux Falls Christian (Class 11A), Brent Olson of Mount Vernon-Plankinton (Class 11B), Pat Ruml of Howard (Class 9A) and Charlie LaRoche of Lower Brule (All Nations Conference).

Other Assistant Coaches of the Year are Dylan Briest of Brandon Valley (Class 11AAA), Craig Jorgenson of Dell Rapids (Class 11A), Adam Timmins of Elk Point-Jefferson (Class 11B), Mitchell Johnson of Alcester-Hudson (Class 9A) and Ryan Kornely of Todd County (All Nations Conference). Timmins is the state Assistant Coach of the Year.
