Brian Kelly on how LSU maintains recruiting class during losing streak

LSU aims to end a three-game skid at home against Vanderbilt on Saturday. The Tigers fell out of the top-25 rankings for the College Football Playoff, AP, and US LBM coaches poll.

Head coach Brian Kelly certainly wants to end the season on a high note with two games in Death Valley, especially with the recruiting class LSU is set to sign next month.

At his Monday press conference, Kelly was asked how LSU holds the class together despite the struggles on the field.

LSU currently holds the No. 4 recruiting class in the country, which includes four five-star prospects. Among them, is the No. 1 overall player in the country, QB Bryce Underwood.

“I would hope that we are calling them as much as if we were winning three games as the same as we’re losing three games,” Kelly said.

The third-year head coach detailed the importance of staying in contact with recruits year-round in a new era of college athletics.

“With revenue sharing, NIL transfer portal, all of those things, you have to maintain these relationships throughout the entire year,” Kelly said. “Whether there’s an uptick or we’ve lost a couple of games, there should be constant communication with those players.”

Kelly echoed a similar sentiment on the Paul Finebaum show, saying this is when LSU leans on relationships.

With two winnable games to end the regular season against the Commodores and Oklahoma, the Tigers can finish with momentum.

No matter the results, Kelly feels confident in his staff’s methods on the recruiting trail and their ability to maintain its highly-touted 2025 class.
