Former CSU football coach Jim McElwain is reportedly set to retire.
The coach who led the last 10-win Colorado State football season is set to retire.
Jim McElwain is retiring after the 2024 season, the school announced Wednesday.
McElwain is currently in his sixth season leading Central Michigan.
McElwain was CSU’s coach for three seasons (2012-14), going 22-16 with the Rams. CSU was 10-2 in his final season before he left for Florida after a dramatic negotiation ahead of the Rams’ bowl game.
McElwain and CSU’s comeback win over Washington State in the 2013 New Mexico Bowl was one of the top moments in recent memory for the program.
Florida had to pay a $7 million buyout to take McElwain from CSU.
McElwain went 22-12 at Florida before a parting of ways.
The 62-year-old McElwain is currently the subject of an NCAA investigation regarding the alleged presence of Connor Stalions on the CMU sideline last season as part of the wider investigation into Michigan sign-stealing allegations.
McElwain was an assistant at Alabama before taking the CSU job.
Central Michigan has one game left in 2024. McElwain is 33-35 at CMU. He is 77-63 overall as an FBS head coach.
