Nov. 19—It’s usually hard to cheer for a team in an all-star team. It’s generally about the individual.
That’s good for Mt. Juliet coach Trey Perry, who has rooting interests on both sides of the 17th annual East-West All-Star Classic to be played at 7 p.m. Dec. 14 at Austin Peay’s Fortera Stadium in Clarksville. The game is sponsored by the Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association.
Perry’s kicker/punter, Daniel Echeverria, will handle those duties for the West team where he will be reunited with his former Golden Bear teammate, Lebanon running back Harrison Edwards.
The rest of the Wilson County delegation is on the East team where Mt. Juliet quarterback Tyler Travers and defensive end Atticus Fiorita will team up with Green Hill running back Nick Owens Jr. and defensive end Brayden Flakoll. Owens and Flakoll were earlier named region most valuable players at their respective positions.
Green Hill’s Josh Crouch, named the Region 4-6A Coach of the Year after guiding the Hawks to the league championship and a 10-0 regular season, will be the East’s defensive coordinator and coach the defensive line for head coach Charles Rathbone of Page.
Back to the West, Dan Winfree, a graduate of the old Castle Heights Military Academy who coached Mt. Juliet from 1997-2001 and later served a couple of years as Watertown’s offensive coordinator, will coach the quarterbacks for West coach Roc Batton. Winfree is now the head coach at Summertown.
