Four-star quarterback commits to Luke Fickell, Wisconsin’s 2025 recruiting class

MADISON – The weekend wasn’t a complete loss for the Wisconsin football program.

Less than 24 hours after its 44-25 loss to Nebraska at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska, Carter Smith, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound dual-threat quarterback from Fort Myers, Florida, announced his commitment to the Badgers

He is considered a four-star prospect by Rivals, ESPN and On3. 247sports lists him as a three-star player.

Smith announced the news on X.

Smith took an official visit to UW last weekend when it hosted No. 1 Oregon.

“The staff was able to squeeze in everything we wanted to see in this very short window, can’t say enough about them,” Smith’s father Dan told On3. “We had a great conversation with Coach (Luke) Fickell. “The atmosphere last night was like something I’ve never seen before and I’ve been to some pretty crazy venues.”

On3 considers Smith as the No. 15 quarterback in the 2025 class, while ESPN lists him as the No. 3 dual-threat quarterback in the class. He was committed to Michigan in Nov. 2023, but decommited after the Wolverines began to pursue another signal caller in the class, Bryce Underwood.

According to maxpreps, Smith has completed 117 of 192 passes (61%) for 1,386 yards, 14 touchdowns and four interceptions and rushed 109 times for 632 yards and 12 touchdowns

The commitment gives the Badgers two quarterbacks for their 2025 class. Landyn Locke, the brother of UW starter Braedyn Locke, has been committed to the program in June, 2023. He missed most of his senior season due to injury.

The early signing period goes from Dec. 4-6.
