Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter have at least two more college football games left to play.
Colorado football coach Deion Sanders on Tuesday said the Colorado superstar duo will play in a potential bowl game for the Buffaloes, even if the team fails to make it to the Big 12 Conference championship game. Not making the conference championship game would likely mean Colorado has no path to the College Football Playoff.
Following last week’s upset loss to Kansas, the Buffaloes no longer control their own destiny to make the CFP at 8-3 (6-2 Big 12). Colorado will need to win its season finale against Oklahoma State this weekend, but would also need help to reach the Big 12 championship.

From there, the Buffaloes would need to win the Big 12 championship to make the playoff. However, Tuesday’s news means Shedeur Sanders and Hunter will suit up in a potential bowl game, regardless of the Buffaloes’ postseason destination. Shedeur Sanders has been a star QB for the Buffaloes, while Hunter has been a two-way superstar and a Heisman Trophy frontrunner.
Both players are projected to be early first-round picks in the 2025 NFL draft, and it is a real possibility that they will be the first two selections.
Colorado bowl projection
USA TODAY’s Erick Smith projects the Buffaloes to play Syracuse in the Holiday Bowl on Dec. 27 in San Diego, California. The Holiday Bowl generally pits the ACC vs. the Pac-12, but bowl games will continue partnering with the Pac-12 and its outbound schools following the conference’s mass exodus of teams to the Big Ten, ACC and, in the case of Colorado, the Big 12.
