Ball State football vs Ohio: Scouting report, score prediction for Cardinals season finale

The 100th season of Ball State football will come to an end Friday when the Cardinals play their season finale at Ohio.

Ball State (3-8, 2-5 Mid-American Conference) is coming off a 38-13 home loss to Bowling Green. The Cardinals are on a three-game conference losing streak, have been eliminated from bowl eligibility and fired coach Mike Neu in the midst of his ninth season.

Ohio (8-3, 6-1), meanwhile, is one of the MAC’s top teams and can clinch a spot in the conference championship with a win.

Can Ball State football continue to slow down the run?

Ball State’s rushing defense has made strides from the beginning of conference play. Last week, Bowling Green running back Terion Stewart, the MAC’s leading rusher, only managed 32 yards on 10 carries against the Cardinals. The Falcons only managed 103 rushing yards and averaged 2.5 yards per carry as a team.

Ohio has one of the MAC’s best rushing offenses. The Bobcats average 205.1 rushing yards per game, the second-most in the conference, and lead the MAC in rushing touchdowns with 27 total. Running back Anthony Tyus III has 851 rushing yards and eight touchdowns this year and averages 5.0 yards per carry. Quarterback Parker Navarro is also a threat with his legs. The graduate senior has 766 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on the season.
