Texas Tech football: Kirby Hocutt tells Brett Yormark level of officiating ‘unacceptable’

Two days after the Texas Tech football team’s Nov. 9 home loss to Colorado, Tech athletics director Kirby Hocutt emailed Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark to complain about the quality of officiating in the game. It’s the second time in 24 months he’s known to have taken such a step.

Tech released the email to the Avalanche-Journal this week in response to an open-records request.

“I will call you in the morning,” Hocutt wrote to Yormark on Nov. 11, “but I hope you will personally watch the video we submitted for the post game officiating report for our game versus Colorado. I didn’t want to say this to Greg or Scott for concern it would be shared with a crew that could be assigned to one of our last two games, but I believe you recognize that our level of officiating is unacceptable.

“We must demand a much higher level of performance and establish some accountability. I think any football coach would have to agree the missed calls had a significant impact on the outcome of our game vs CU.

“We need to have some in depth and direct conversations as a group after this season is over. Simply, we must be better.”
