PISCATAWAY – Kyle Monangai insists he doesn’t think about where he stacks up in Rutgers football’s record books or the type of legacy he’ll leave here on the football field. At least right now, as Monangai’s final season in a Scarlet Knights uniform draws closer to a close, he’s leaving that for others to consider.
“It’s cool and all the talks about it, I appreciate it, it’s an honor and blessing for sure,” Monangai said. “But I don’t think about where do I stack or, or will people talk about me five years from now. I don’t think about that.”
But there is a legacy the Don Bosco Prep product does think about.
As important as what Monangai has accomplished on the field – including back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons – his leadership and the example both for the running back room and the entire team has been equally as crucial.
There’s a chance that Monangai will play his final game with Rutgers on Saturday against Michigan State in East Lansing (3:30 p.m., FS1). Monangai said he’ll discuss with coach Greg Schiano and his family about whether or not to play in the bowl game in the coming weeks.

But if this is indeed his final game, he’ll leave a lofty example to follow.
“My main thing is being in the now and helping the guys that are here to help my team win and at least legacy-wise, leave a legacy for the younger guys and the running back room for my younger teammates to follow in terms of my work ethic and what it takes to win,” Monangai said. “I don’t think that’s something you can fall into with luck, I think that’s something…
