The Kansas City Chiefs, the defending Super Bowl champions, came out on top in a dramatic finish to beat the Las Vegas Raiders 19-17 and become the first team to clinch an NFL play-off spot.

Trailing by two points, with 15 seconds left and in field goal range, the Raiders lost possession after a mix-up saw center Jackson Powers-Johnson snap the ball early, resulting in a Chiefs fumble recovery that sealed the win.

It is the Chiefs’ 14th straight victory in one-possession games – the longest run in NFL history.

Led by star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs were in control, leading 16-3 with three minutes of the third quarter left in the NFL’s annual ‘Black Friday’ game at Arrowhead.

But the Raiders, with Aidan O’Connell back at quarterback following a thumb injury, fought back and looked set to kick a field goal to seal a narrow victory before their last-gasp calamity.

Instead, Kansas City are now 11-1 and well placed for a challenge for a third-straight Super Bowl title.

The struggling Raiders are 2-10.
