BATON ROUGE — On the eve of the opening of the early signing period, LSU football has lost one of its top commitments in the 2025 recruiting class.
Four-star cornerback Kade Phillips has decommitted from LSU and committed to Texas Tuesday morning.
Phillips initially committed to Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns back in the summer but Brian Kelly, LSU corners coach Corey Raymond and the defensive coordinator Blake Baker worked hard to get the Missouri City, Texas native to flip from Texas to LSU back in August.

LSU RECRUITING NEEDS What are LSU football’s recruiting needs for early signing day? What you need to know
The Tigers held Phillips’ commitment throughout the duration of the 2024 college football regular season. But they couldn’t hold on as Phillips went back to his first choice on the day before the early signing period.
Losing Phillips is a big blow for LSU as the defensive backfield is one of the top areas of needs for the staff in this cycle. Five-star corner D.J. Pickett remains committed to the Tigers and he’s their highest rated recruit left in the group.
Phillips marks the third decommitment for LSU in the last two weeks, the other two being No. 1 overall prospect and five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood and four-star edge rusher LaJesse Harrold.
Before those exits, the Tigers had the third best recruiting class, per the 247Sports Composite. Even after losing Phillips, LSU continues to have to the No. 6 group in the country. LSU now has 24 players committed in this cycle.
