If you missed it, the calendar turned pages a couple of days ago. Not from November to December, but rather from November to Silly Season.
The early signing period starts on Wednesday and the Ducks head to Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship Game against the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday. On Sunday, the official College Football Playoff rankings are released, and the transfer portal opens up on Monday.
In the ensuing weeks, we will get the Heisman Trophy ceremony, bowl games, playoff games, and ultimately a national champion will be crowned. I hope you got your rest during the month of November because it will be go, go, go in Eugene over the next month.
Let’s start with the first thing on that list, though. The early signing period opens up on Wednesday, an event that has largely taken over as the conventional National Signing Day, with roughly 80% of the nation’s top prospects putting pen to paper.
Dan Lanning and the Ducks are in a good position heading into the period, holding onto the No. 7 class in the nation. Should everyone who is committed currently sign their NLI on Wednesday, Oregon would grab their third consecutive top-10 ranked class. If the Ducks are able to flip a couple of highly-rated prospects, which they are aiming to do, there’s a good chance that Lanning will deliver his second straight top-five class in the nation, and vies for the best class in program history.
So who are the names to keep an eye on, and who are the possible flips? Let’s break it all down in a Signing Day primer.
