This week, thousands of football players will be signing with colleges, tying themselves officially to their chosen schools for at least one year.
College football’s 2024 early signing period begins Wednesday, Dec. 4, and goes through Friday, Dec. 6. In previous years, the early signing period was closer to Christmas but was moved up this year to coincide with the transfer portal officially opening Dec. 9. There will be another signing period, from Wednesday, Feb. 5, through Tuesday, April 1, but the majority of big-name players are expected to make their commitments official this week.
More than a dozen Cincinnati-area athletes have announced or seriously hinted at their intention to make their signings official this week. Here are the 10 highest rated, according to 247Sports (with honorable mentions below):
10. LB Maddox Arnold, Toledo (Elder)
Elder’s Maddox Arnold (40) was a team captain for the Panthers this season.
Arnold announced on Monday that he would be officially signing with Toledo on Thursday at 7:20 a.m. at Elder. He’s rated a three-star linebacker by 247Sports and chose Toledo over seven other Mid-American Conference teams, Purdue, Marshall and more. This season, the 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker finished with 87 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks and an interception.
9. OT Raphael Greene, Toledo (Winton Woods)
Greene will be one of five players signing at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Winton Woods gym. The 6-foot-6, 320-pound offensive tackle is a three-star recruit, rated the 115th-best offensive tackle in the nation and the 70th-best recruit in Ohio for the 2025 recruiting class. He chose Toledo over offers from Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Vanderbilt and West Virginia.
