Wisconsin football loses one DB to transfer portal, gains another on recruiting trail

MADISON – In the span of about 10 minutes Monday, one defensive back announced his departure from the Wisconsin football team and another announced his commitment to join it.

At this time of year, players come and go.

Jonas Duclona, a 5-foot-11, 190-pound cornerback from Florida, announced on X on Monday evening his intention to enter the transfer portal, which officially opens Dec. 9 and lasts until Dec. 28.

On his post, Duclona thanked God and then coach Luke Fickell and cornerbacks coach Paul Haynes for their support the past two seasons.

“Ready for the next chapter of my journey,” he wrote.

Duclona was a three-star recruit coming out of Naples High School. He is the second cornerback to announce his departure from UW. Amare Snowden, a redshirt freshman, announced his intention to leave Sunday.

While Duclona moves on, the Badgers got help on the recruiting trail at the position when Cairo Skanes, a 6-1, 180-pound cornerback from Providence Day High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, announced his commitment to UW.
