The Nebraska Cornhuskers are already feeling the impact of the transfer portal during the 2024 offseason. The portal officially opens on Monday, December 9, and closes on Thursday, December 28. That hasn’t stopped several Huskers from already declaring their intentions to enter when it opens.

The first player to announce his plans to enter the portal at the start of the offseason was wide receiver Malachi Coleman. Head coach Matt Rhule has said that the program could see 35-50 players depart this offseason. The new 105-man roster limit has been cited as the biggest factor in the mass departures from the team.

“I think we’ll end up with 30 to 50 guys in the portal with all things with the roster and everything that’s going to have to happen. I can’t say anything but great things about Malachi and obviously he’s not one I wanted to go in the portal, but I don’t want any of them to go in the portal, I want all of them to stay here and develop, it’s just the new world we’re in. It’s going to be different.”
