Georgia quarterback Carson Beck suffered an elbow injury during Saturday’s SEC Conference Championship against Texas and is looking into treatment options, the school confirmed in a release on Monday.
Georgia said that Beck’s return timeline is unclear, and has not clarified whether he will miss out on the postseason. But per multiple reports, Beck suffered an injury to his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL), putting his postseason in jeopardy.
Unfortunately, the bad news keeps coming for the Bulldogs: In the same release, the school announced that punter Brett Thorson’s season is over, with the junior sustaining a knee injury to his non-kicking leg during Saturday’s game. Thorson will need to undergo season-ending surgery for the injury, per the school.
Georgia will play in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1, competing in the college football playoff semifinal as the No. 2 seed. The Bulldogs will play the winner of Notre Dame-Indiana.
Whether or not Georgia will play with its senior quarterback will be there is dependent on what step Beck decides to take next. Per multiple reports, Beck can try to rest his elbow for the next few weeks and see how much it has healed before the game. If there’s little chance of him returning this season, he may decide instead to undergo surgery and prepare for the NFL Draft.
Beck became Georgia’s starter last season, starting all 13 regular season games and helping the Bulldogs demolish Florida State in the 2023 Orange Bowl. This season, he threw for 3,485 yards and a career-high 28 touchdowns to lead Georgia to a 11-2 record and the No. 2 overall seed.
