The Georgia Bulldogs played their hardest game yet against the Texas Longhorns in the 2024 SEC championship. It was a grueling game, featuring a 6-3 Texas lead at halftime and Carson Beck going down with injury. The Bulldogs woke up on offense in the second half, scoring ten unanswered points to take the lead 13-6.

However, Texas didn’t relent. The Longhorns scored a touchdown right at the start of the fourth quarter. Despite this late surge, Georgia kicked a field goal with less than five minutes left, and Daylen Everette picked off Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers with three minutes left. Georgia had the chance to ice the game, backup Gunner Stockton threw an interception in field goal range, giving Texas a chance to march down the field, where the Longhorns would kick a field goal to send it to overtime 16-16.

In overtime, Georgia’s defense stood strong, stopping Texas and forcing only three points. The Bulldogs offense effectively went through Texas’ defense, despite Gunner Stockton suffering an injury, and Trevor Etienne was able to drive in the game-winning touchdown to win it 22-19.

Out of Georgia’s many best wins (including one against Texas earlier in the season), the SEC championship might not have been the best performance, but it meant the most for the Bulldogs. Now Georgia is the No. 2 seed in the playoff with a first round bye. UGA is set to play either Notre Dame or Indiana at the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1.
