NASHVILLE – Donovan Starr couldn’t help but crack a smile on stage at Nissan Stadium during the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football awards on Tuesday.
Starr had just been named Class 6A Mr. Football, becoming the first in Ravenwood’s history to win the award. This season Starr had 41 tackles, two interceptions and a sack, while adding 16 receptions for 446 yards and five touchdowns, earning Region 6-6A MVP for the Raptors (13-1).

The award represents far more than just a strong senior season on the field for Starr. It represents how far he’s come since beginning his journey into football four short years ago.
“It’s crazy. It’s definitely a blessing,” Starr said. “I put in a lot of hours for this, probably a lot more hours than a lot of guys, because I obviously started from scratch, I hadn’t played football before. It all worked out in the end so I’m grateful.”
Beyond Ravenwood’s state championship aspirations, this season Starr’s mind was kept occupied by the litany of Power Four colleges reaching out on a weekly basis trying to secure his commitment. Starr had committed to Auburn in June, but that didn’t stop schools including Alabama, Vanderbilt, Georgia and Michigan from trying to lure him away.
