English had been the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator before being elevated to the interim head coaching role after head coach Drew Gilmer and defensive coordinator Adam Helms both resigned ahead of the season. The two were first placed on administrative leave after allegations of inappropriate arose during fall camp and videos of supposed incidents were shared on X.
Before moving to Hoover in 2023, English led the Albertville football program for two seasons, going 2-18 there. He is still the last coach to lead the Aggies to a win, as they have gone 0-20 since he left. He had come to the Aggies from Class 7A Grissom, going 16-25 there.
English holds a career record of 49-62 but has taken on some of the hardest jobs in the state. He had a three-year stint as a head coach in North Carolina before coming to Alabama.
