Texas A&M football: 4 things to know about QB Jacob Zeno

COLLEGE STATION — When Jacob Zeno first stepped on a college campus, the transfer portal wasn’t even a year old.

Now, more than half-a-decade later, the former University of Alabama-Birmingham quarterback is set to embark on his seventh college football season with his third program as Texas A&M football has secured a commitment from Zeno.

Zeno, a San Antonio native, was on campus Tuesday, and later that night, it was reported that the veteran signal-caller would be an Aggie for the 2025 season.

The addition is needed for A&M, which has have already seen two quarterbacks — Conner Weigman and Jaylen Henderson — enter the transfer portal.

A&M plans to fill plenty of spots in addition to quarterback, and the sense is that the Aggies will be aggressive in their pursuit of veteran players who can help them right away.

With Zeno, the Aggies now have a quarterback who can be an experienced backup or even challenge redshirt freshman Marcel Reed as QB1.

Here are four things to know about Jacob Zeno:

AGGIES: Texas A&M football: QB Jacob Zeno, to play 7th season with Aggies, per report

1. Born and raised in Texas

Zeno grew up in San Antonio and played high school football at John Jay High School where he was a first-team all-district selection as a junior.

Zeno completed 1,387 yards and 14 touchdowns as a senior, was selected to the Elite-11 team, and was a three-star recruit, according to 247 Sports. Out of high school, Zeno received offers from Georgia, Arkansas, SMU, South Carolina and Texas Tech.

It doesn’t appear that A&M was on his initial offer sheet coming out of high school.
