Despite a season-ending injury forcing him to miss the final two games of the season, Ohio State center Seth McLaughlin has won the Rimington Award. The honor is given to the most outstanding center in college football.
The Alabama transfer made the most of his short stint in Scarlet and Gray. Playing in just ten games, McLaughlin was a dominant force in both pass protection and opening holes in the run game. He quickly earned the trust of his teammates and became the quarterback of the offensive line.
Many Buckeye fans were somewhat leary of McLaughlin joining the team after his performance against Michigan in the Rose Bowl, where he had several bad snaps. But that wasn’t the case in Columbus, as he was nearly flawless the entire year.

McLaughlin becomes the fourth Ohio State center to win the Rimington Trophy, which was awarded first in the year 2000. It breaks a tie with the Wolverines, who have three winners over the years. McLaughlin joins fellow Buckeyes LeCharles Bentley (2001), Pat Elflein (2016), and Billy Price (2017).
The OSU center shared his excitement on social media, saying, “I am incredibly honored to receive this award! Thank you Buckeye Nation for welcoming me in and giving me the opportunity to be the player that I knew I was capable of being!”
The honor is well deserved for McLaughlin, who, despite his short tenure at Ohio State, will be remembered as a true Buckeye.
