Penn State tight end Tyler Warren was officially recognized as the best at his position on Thursday night. Warren was named the winner of this year’s Mackey Award, which is awarded to the nation’s top tight end in college football by the Nassau County Sports Commission.
Warren was an easy pick for this year’s tight-end award. Warren has been rewriting the Big Ten and Penn State record books with 88 receptions for 1,062 receiving yards this season. He has combined for 10 total touchdowns and has thrown a touchdown pass as well. Warren set Big Ten records for the most receptions and the most receiving yards by a tight end in a single season.
Warren was also named the Big Ten’s Kwalick-Clark Big Ten Tight End of the Year and has received multiple first-team All-America and All-Big Ten accolades this postseason. Warren was also a finalist for the Paul Hornung Award and a semifinalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award.
Warren is a big reason why Penn State played for the Big Ten championship and is hosting a first-round game in the College Football Playoff. Penn State will host SMU on Saturday, Dec. 21 with a trip to the Fiesta Bowl on the line for a matchup with Boise State in the quarterfinal round.
