Pop-Tarts Bowl debuts working toaster trophy

The Pop-Tarts Bowl captivated the college football scene last season by introducing an edible mascot. A year later, the postseason bowl game raises the stakes by unveiling a one-of-a-kind trophy that contains a working toaster.

The trophy, developed with GE Appliances, incorporates feedback from fans and media following last year’s game, resulting in an interactive celebration for the winner.

“Our fans have made it clear: the Pop-Tarts Bowl isn’t just another game, it’s an experience,” Florida Citrus Sports CEO Steve Hogan said in a statement. “We listened and with the help of GE Appliances, we’re delivering a trophy that doesn’t just sit on a trophy stand. We’re excited to share this fusion of fun and functionality with college football fans everywhere.”

This year’s game features No. 13 Miami (10-2) against No. 18 Iowa State (10-3) at Camping World Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 28 at 3:30 p.m.

“Pop-Tarts made a promise to turn the convention on its head for the Pop-Tarts Bowl and we stand by our word,” said Heidi Ray, Senior Director of Marketing at Pop-Tarts in a statement. “By working with the brilliant minds at GE Appliances to make the trophy into an actual, working toaster, we are dialing up the Crazy Good in this time-honored football ritual.”

Miami coach Mario Cristobal and Iowa State coach Matt Campbell were on hand to debut the trophy in Orlando.

Kansas State outlasted N.C. State, 28-19 in the inaugural Pop-Tarts Bowl last season.

The game earned a reported $12.1 million in media exposure, with fans tuning in to see a Frosted Pop-Tarts mascot lowered into a “toaster” on the field before being devoured by Wildcats players and coaches.
