MIAMI — When American Heritage needed to try to regain control of the Class 4A state championship game, it put the ball in the hands of star senior running back Byron Louis.
Jones had just rallied from a 14-point deficit to tie the game in the fourth quarter. All the momentum was on the Tigers sideline. It didn’t last long.
Louis, a Florida signee, burst through the line, broke an attempted ankle tackle and raced 80 yards for a touchdown.
Louis, ranked No. 44 on the USA TODAY Florida Network top 100, was at his best with the game on the line. He rushed for 134 yards on 10 carries in the fourth quarter and finished the game with 29 carries for 221 yards and a pair of second half touchdowns.
It was the third time this season that Louis topped the 200-yard mark and is the second most yards he ever had in a single game. His record is 230 yards in a five-touchdown performance against Cardinal Gibbons in 2023.
