BYU’s Alamo Bowl showdown with Colorado on Dec. 28 will be must-see TV.
Buffaloes two-way sensation Travis Hunter just won the Heisman Trophy. Hunter’s teammate, Shedeur Sanders, will likely be the first quarterback selected in April’s NFL Draft.
Oh, and Shedeur’s father — NFL legend Deion Sanders — happens to be piloting Colorado as “Coach Prime.” The star power in Boulder is off the charts.
This won’t be the first occasion where the Cougars have battled against A-list opponents in a bowl game. Here’s a look back at some of the most famous football figures BYU has played in the postseason.
1980 Holiday Bowl vs. SMU

The “Pony Express” duo of Eric Dickerson and Craig James was one of the most potent rushing tandems in football history, and such was the case in a combined five touchdown effort against BYU — only for Jim McMahon’s Hail Mary heroics to steal a “miracle” victory for the Cougars.
Dickerson, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, still holds the NFL’s single-season rushing record with 2,105 yards in 1984.
1985 Florida Citrus Bowl vs. Ohio State
