MADISON – The Wisconsin football staff struck gold in the transfer portal last year when it signed defensive tackle Elijah Hills out of Albany.
Maybe Parker Petersen is next.
Peterson, a 6-foot-4, 301-pound defensive tackle, announced his commitment to Wisconsin on Sunday. He played his first three seasons at Tulane.
The Nashville native will provide help at a position that has been weakened by the loss of Hills, who completed his eligibility, as well as the transfer portal departures James Thompson and Curt Neal.
He has one year of eligibility remaining.
Petersen played in 13 games this season, posting 21 tackles, 14 solo. He recorded 4 ½ tackles for a loss and 2 ½ sacks.
Badgers coach Luke Fickell has talked about getting more size along the defensive front. Petersen will bring added bulk. Ben Barten (6-5, 300) was the only 300-pounder who regularly saw action on the unit last season.
Peterson is Wisconsin’s third portal addition in three days.
Defensive end Mason Reiger, formerly of Louisville, committed Friday and tight end Tanner Koziol (Ball State) announced his commitment Saturday.
