AUBURN — As Auburn football’s roster is in the thick of seeing significant turnover, its coaching staff now falls in a similar boat.
On Wednesday, Auburn defensive edge coach Josh Aldridge made his departure official, changing his X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, account to indicate he’s joining Blake Harrell’s East Carolina staff as his new defensive coordinator.
East Carolina has yet to officially announced the hire. Subsequently, the details of Aldridge’s East Carolina contract have yet to be released.
It’ll be Aldridge’s first outright coordinator role in 11 years as a college football coach, as he was co-defensive coordinator on Hugh Freeze’s Liberty staff during the 2022 season. He was also West Georgia’s recruiting coordinator from 2014 to 2017, when the Wolves were still a Division II program.
“Auburn, you have been nothing short of amazing to me and my Family,” Aldridge wrote in a message posted to X on Tuesday. “We have loved you and you kept your word and LOVED US BACK. We will always hold a special place in our heart for the Plains and this community.”
Aldridge’s Auburn tenure ends after two seasons, as he joined the Tigers’ on Freeze’s inaugural staff. In that span, he’s coached both linebackers and edge rushers, moving over to the latter when Freeze hired DJ Durkin as his defensive coordinator last offseason.
He’s been a key piece on the recruiting trail for Auburn, helping land former five-star Demarcus Riddick, as well as blue chips in Joseph Phillips and DJ Barber, when he was coaching the program’s linebackers. He also recruited 2025 five-star signee Jared Smith and is listed as 2026 five-star commit Hezekiah Harris’ primary recruiter by 247Sports.
