The Texas Tech football team has landed one of the top players available in the transfer portal.
The Matador Club, Tech’s NIL collective, announced on social media Tuesday night that UCF defensive tackle Lee Hunter has committed to the Red Raiders. Hunter was named second team all-Big 12 for the 2024 season and has one year of eligibility remaining.
On3 has Hunter (6-foot-4, 320 pounds) as the No. 11 player and top defensive tackle available. Hunter is rated the No. 16 overall player in the portal by ESPN.
ASU quarterback Sam Leavitt (10) scrambles against UCF defensive tackle Lee Hunter (2) during a game at Mountain America Stadium in Tempe on Nov. 9, 2024.
After starting his career redshirting at Auburn in 2021, Hunter spent the past three years at UCF where he appeared in 38 games, 25 of them coming as a starter the past two seasons.
Hunter accumulated 45 tackles during the 2024 campaign, 9.5 for a loss of yardage and one sack to go with six quarterback hurries. He had 69 tackles, 11 for a loss and three sacks in 2023.
Hunter is the second defensive tackle to commit out of the transfer portal, joining Skyler Gill-Howard out of Northern Illinois. Of the 11 announced commitments so far, six have come from defensive players.
