Over the weekend, comments emerged from Cowboys executive Stephen Jones regarding the possible trade of linebacker Micah Parsons. After Sunday’s win over the Panthers, both Stephen Jones and Parsons threw water on the idea of a trade.
Cowboys owner and G.M. Jerry Jones added his two cents, during his Tuesday appearance on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas.
“That’s never been uttered in this organization that we don’t have a future with Micah Parsons,” Jones said, via Todd Archer of ESPN.com.
That doesn’t make it not an option. If Parsons wants dramatically more than the Cowboys will pay, a trade becomes a real possibility.
Parsons recently gave the Cowboys considerable leverage when telling ESPN, “I don’t think there’s a big difference between $30 million and $40 million in my eyes” when a player is in the best situation.
That comment might have put the Cowboys in the best situation to get Parsons to take something closer to $30 million per year than $40 million per year, especially at a time when they’re paying market-value contracts to quarterback Dak Prescott and receiver CeeDee Lamb.
