The College Football Playoff expanded from four to 12 teams this season and one of the major selling points of the format was first-round games that would be hosted on campus by the higher seed. It’s the first chance in the CFP era for the pageantry and tradition that makes the sport special to shine through on the national stage and the action continues Saturday. Four conference winners await the winners of the first-round games.
The action got underway Friday when No. 7 seed Notre Dame beat No. 10 Indiana. On Saturday, the games begin at noon ET with No. 6 Penn State taking on No. 11 SMU in Happy Valley. That will be followed by No. 5 Texas hosting No. 12 Clemson at 4 p.m. ET and then the first round will conclude with No. 8 Ohio State at home against No. 9 Tennessee at 8 p.m. ET. Penn State (-8), Texas (-13.5) and Ohio State (-7) are all favored at home in the latest College Football Playoff odds in those Saturday matchups.
