The Texans have scored 10 straight points to take a 10-7 lead over the Chiefs.
Ka’imi Fairbairn hit a 33-yard field goal on Houston’s second possession. Then after forcing a three-and-out, Houston scored again with C.J. Stroud’s 10-yard touchdown to Dalton Schultz.
Houston’s third possession saw the club convert four third downs en route to the end zone. Stroud was able to move the chains with a nice touch pass to Nico Collins for a 30-yard gain on third-and-6 at the end of the first quarter. Then he moved them again with an 8-yard pass to Xavier Hutchinson on third-and-7.
Then on third-and-13, Stroud found a wide-open Tank Dell for a 16-yard gain to get another fresh set of downs.
Finally, Mixon rushed for 4 yards on third-and-1 inside the red zone to set up Houston at the 10-yard line.
On the next play, Stroud evaded the pass rush to find Schultz open in the end zone for the score.
That capped a 13-play, 82-yard drive that took 6:05 off the clock.
On the injury front, Texans guard Shaq Mason is questionable to return with a knee injury after going down during Houston’s first drive.
Chiefs special teams ace Jack Cochrane went down on a kickoff return late in the first quarter. While he was able to walk off the field under his own power, he has been ruled out with an ankle injury.
