College Football Playoff reactions feature SEC bias, dishonest analysis

Tennessee defensive linemen Bryson Eason (20) and Dominic Bailey (90) react after Eason was called for a face mask penalty during the NCAA college football playoff game against Ohio State on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024, in Columbus, Ohio.

Lane Kiffin is a former USC coach. He helped the Trojans a lot under Pete Carroll and won big in the 2011 season when the program was unfairly sanctioned by the NCAA. USC fans respect Kiffin for many legitimate reasons. However, in his current role as Ole Miss head coach, Kiffin is doing what many in the media — especially ESPN — did over the weekend of College Football Playoff action. When SMU and Indiana got thumped, they didn’t belong in the playoff field and it was an indictment of the playoff selection process. Weirdly, when Tennessee got its doors blown off by Ohio State, Lane Kiffin and ESPN went silent about the SEC not being good enough in the playoff.

Kiffin tweeted all weekend about the non-SEC teams being inadequate, but as soon as it was Tennessee in the loser’s circle, Kiffin and ESPN strangely became quiet, and you didn’t hear about the SEC’s flaws this season.

Lane Kiffin was first in line, bashing Indiana on Friday night and SMU on Saturday afternoon when those teams wilted in the College Football Playoff. Kiffin criticized the playoff selection committee for allowing those teams into the field over his Ole Miss Rebels and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Funny, though, is the fact that Kiffin didn’t rip…
