Iowa State Cyclones defensive line Tyler Onyedim (11) celebrates after a quarterback sack against Texas during the first quarter in the Big-12 football showdown at Jack Trice Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, in Ames, Iowa.
Texas A&M’s defensive line received some added depth after former Pitt/Colorado Edge Dayon Hayes committed to the Aggies on Friday.
Still, more help in the interior is needed to help improve the run defense, especially after the Texas Longhorns ran for over 200 yards in the regular season finale.
Hayes’ commitment is likely just the start of what Coach Mike Elko and his staff have planned, and another intriguing veteran defensive lineman has just entered the portal. According to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz, Iowa State defensive lineman Tyler Onyedim will look for a new home in 2025, bringing a ton of production.
A Richmond, Texas native, Onyedim has started his last two seasons at defensive end in the Cyclones’ 3-3-5 system, producing 90 tackles, three sacks, and 12 tackles for loss during the previous four seasons. A notable athlete, Onyedim finished the 2024 season with an impressive 72.4 run defensive grade and 62.7 coverage grade, according to Pro Football Focus.
Adding Tyler Onyedium is a no-brainer for a team that needs help up front. From a logistics perspective, Richmond (TX) is just an hour and a half away from College Station.
