Brian Daboll’s Giants ‘not good enough’ as 34-7 loss at Falcons sets franchise record

The Giants’ 34-7 loss Sunday at the Atlanta Falcons was a historic one. In addition to New York suffering its largest defeat of the 2024 season with a 27-point margin, it set a new franchise record at 10 consecutive losses.

“It’s not good enough,” said Brian Daboll, who repeated the words throughout his postgame news conference as he fell to 17-31 as the Giants’ coach since 2022. “Again, that’s my responsibility. You do everything that you can do each week — obviously, not good enough. So, of course, after every game, it hurts. It hurts to lose. I put a lot into it, and we have two more to finish off and we’ve got to put everything into it.”

After a scoreless first quarter, New York (2-13) jumped out to a 7-0 lead on Drew Lock‘s touchdown pass to Tyrone Tracy at the second quarter’s 14:53 mark. Atlanta (8-7) responded with Riley Patterson‘s 52-yard field goal four minutes later, and then Jessie Bates III‘s 55-yard interception return for a touchdown to take the 10-7 lead.

“At this point in the year, where you’re at, you’re obviously not going to the playoffs, but all of us have pride in here,” said Lock, who totaled three costly turnovers — including a second pick-six sequence on Matthew Judon‘s 27-yarder early in the third quarter that put the Giants in a 24-7 hole just 40 seconds into the second half. “All of us have a job to do. This is our job. It doesn’t matter what the record is. We’ve got to come in and work, try to keep getting better and come out here and perform. It’s our job. Keep doing it, no matter what.”

Before the 2-12 Las Vegas Raiders and 3-11 Jacksonville Jaguars kicked off at 4:25 p.m., the Giants regained the NFL’s worst record and 2025 draft’s No. 1 overall pick. Two games — next Sunday’s 1 p.m. kickoff with the Indianapolis Colts and Week 18 at the Philadelphia Eagles — remain as New York digs deeper into rock bottom.

“Like I said, it’s not good enough,” Daboll said. “Do everything you can do to do better the next week and the next day.”
