Guiding the Oregon football team to a No. 1 seed and the College Football Playoffs in just his third year as a head coach comes with good benefits for Dan Lanning.
Along with several milestones through the season, Lanning and his staff earned hefty bonuses after winning a Big Ten championship earlier this month, and qualifying for the College Football Playoff quarterfinals after earning a first-round bye as the No. 1 seed.

How much has Oregon football’s Dan Lanning made in contract bonuses this season?
The third-year coach earned $150,000 after Oregon won the Big Ten championship Dec. 7, and earned another $200,000 for qualifying for the CFP quarterfinals. Lanning could earn another $250,000 for reaching the semifinals and another $500,000 for making the national championship game.
His performance bonuses this season now total $850,000 entering the College Football Playoff, with various bonuses, like for winning 12 games, already accounted for. He also earned a second contract extension, through 2031, worth $8.4 million in salary plus an additional $1 million in deferred compensation for UO’s second 10-win regular season in a row.
How much have Oregon assistants made after Big Ten championship?
Oregon’s assistants have also earned bonuses, including $20,000 for winning the conference championship. UO’s assistant coaches have earned $30,000 total in bonuses and can earn $95,000 more for future postseason victories.
