What new Jacksonville State football coach Charles Kelly said about first two staff hires

Jacksonville State football’s coaching staff is still in a work in progress.

The biggest step was the hire on Charles Kelly that was made official on Saturday, and he was introduced to local media on Sunday. During his first press conference, he gave some insight into the coaching staff.

The Gamecocks announced that offensive line coach Rick Trickett would be staying, and Rick’s son Clint had changed his X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, bio to being the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach for Jax State, but that hasn’t been officially announced.

“First of all, Rick Trickett and I go back a long time. When I was a graduate assistant at Auburn, that was the first time I worked with Coach Trickett,” Kelly said. “We we’re there in 1993; went undefeated that year. I became the running back coach at Jacksonville State the next year. It’s amazing how you come back and come in contact with people. I guess it was 2013 that coach Trickett and I coached together again at Florida State and had the opportunity to win the national championship there. The Trickett family, I’ve been very close with. I’ve know Clint since he was a very young man, watched him grow. He played for us at Florida State while I was there. I’ve watched him develop as a coach.”

Clint was with Georgia Southern, who fell to Conference USA’s Sam Houston State in the New Orleans Bowl earlier this month. With that, it could be one of the reasons Kelly and the Gamecocks haven’t officially announced the hire.
