Georgia quarterback Carson Beck (15) goes down after a hit on this trowing shoulder during the first half of the SEC championship game against Texas in Atlanta, on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024.
Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck will be out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
The No. 2 Bulldogs will face the No. 3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1.
With Beck out, Notre Dame’s path to victory becomes slightly easier, as the Irish are now likely to face backup Gunner Stockton. Stockton is known as a running threat, more so than Beck, though not quite as much of a passing threat as Beck, who was highly touted as an NFL prospect.
It will be Stockton’s first start.
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart seems to think the change at QB won’t change his team’s attack plan.
“You know, I think we are who we are in regards to that,” Smart told reporters, according to ESPN. “I mean, we’ve played an entire season offensively. You know, Gunner is a good athlete. I think Carson’s a good athlete. So, it’s one of those deals that I don’t know how much it changes things.”
