Before answering a reporter’s question Monday during an online conference including Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham participating, Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian stopped to make an observation.
“I’m watching Judge Judy at the bottom of this Zoom right now,” Steve Sarkisian said. “I’m not sure who’s got that cooking. Sorry Kenny, I apologize.”
Sure enough, the Zoom window belonging to a Phoenix television station was showing a Judge Judy episode instead of an inquisitive reporter’s face. And Dillingham also noticed the back-and-forth between Judy Sheindlin and two visitors to her court.
“Coach Sark, I too am watching Judge Judy just so you know. I see it as well. No harm taken,” Dillingham replied the next time he was asked a question.
Would Sarkisian and Dillingham rather have been watching Judge Judy instead of talking with reporters on Monday? Maybe. Would Sarkisian and Dillingham rather have been game-planning instead of talking with reporters on Monday? Without a doubt.
That’s because Sarkisian and Dillingham both share a love for offense. Their teams will go head-to-head Jan. 1 in the Peach Bowl, which is serving as a quarterfinal in the College Football Playoff.
“I think Coach Dillingham — I’ve followed his career for some time now, and I was kind of in his shoes a while back where I was kind of the hot guy and you’re winning and you keep finding your way up the ladder, and the job that he’s done at Arizona State from year one to year two in this day and age of college football is extremely impressive,” Sarkisian said. “We’re looking forward to the opportunity. It’s a heck of a challenge.”
