Alabama football adds 2026 commitment from Zyan Gibson. What to know about 4-star Gadsden CB

Alabama football received an early Christmas gift Tuesday in the form of a 2026 commitment.

Zyan Gibson, a four-star cornerback out of Gadsden, Alabama, announced his commitment to Alabama, choosing the Crimson Tide over Tennessee, Miami and Auburn.

Standing at 5-foot-11, 177 pounds, Gibson is listed as the No. 72 player and the No. 7 cornerback in the 2026 class. He is the fourth-ranked Alabama prospect.

Gibson is the only 2026 player currently committed to Alabama. He is the first Gadsden player to join an Alabama recruiting class since three-star safety Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. in 2024, whose father, Dre Kirkpatrick Sr., also played at Gadsden and played at Alabama.

Helton was followed by a commitment by Jackson, Alabama four-star safety Jamarrion Gordon that lasted just over two months, a commitment by Carrollton four-star cornerback Dorian Barney that lasted nearly six months, and a commitment from Birmingham four-star defensive lineman Vodney Cleveland that lasted a month and a half.

Gibson has the talent of an Alabama-targeted cornerback, recording 37 tackles while he was rarely targeted in the passing game as a junior at Gadsden City.

But Gibson also represents a continued effort for Alabama to push its focus on in-state recruiting, something the Crimson Tide was admittedly behind in in 2026, missing out on each of the top 11 in-state targets in 2025, and landing only two Alabama natives…
