IU football continues to add to QB room with fresh commitment from 2025 prospect

IU football continues to add to its quarterback room.

A day after landing one of the most-prized QBs out of the transfer portal (Cal’s Fernando Mendoza), Curt Cignetti landed a Christmas commitment from 2025 prospect Jacob Bell.

Bell, an all-state performer out of Naperville North (Ill.), was originally committed to Ball State and is the No. 141-ranked QB in his class, per 247Sports.

“Seeing Coach Cignetti flip around a long awaited dynasty and make them a College Football Playoff contender in his first year lets me know that they have a bright future and it’s something that looks fun to be a part of,” Bell told On3.com.

This past season, the 6-3 Bell completed 63% of his passes for 3,082 yards and 38 touchdowns with seven interceptions. He also ran for 142 yards and four touchdowns.

The Hoosiers’ QB 2025 depth chart will look almost completely different with Kurtis Rourke headed for the NFL and backup Tayven Jackson in the portal.

In addition to Fernando Mendoza and now Bell, IU returns redshirt freshmen Alberton Mendoza (Fernando’s brother) and former Center Grove star Tyler Cherry at QB.

Brebeuf Jesuit’s Maverick Geske, the state’s leading IHSAA passer this season, will join the program as a preferred walk-on.
